Prefecture of Hiroshima

Hiroshima (広島県, Hiroshima-ken ) is a prefecture Japan located at the south-west of the island of Honshū. Its principal city is Hiroshima. The territory of the prefecture includes many small islands on the Inland sea of Seto ( Setonaikai ).

History

The area of Hiroshima, formerly divided into Province of Bingo and Province of Aki, was a place of commercial exchange and cultural since the beginning of the Japanese history. Hiroshima is the traditional center of the Région of Chūgoku and was the seat of the Clan Mori until the Bataille of Sekigahara.

Hiroshima habrite two sites belonging to the world heritage of UNESCO:

  1. the Atomic Dome of Hiroshima
  2. the Sanctuary of Itsukushima to Miyajima, known for its Torii which seems to float with high tide.

It is surrounded of the prefectures of Okayama, Tottori, Shimane and Yamaguchi.
