Prefecture of Aksou

The prefecture of Aksou (阿克苏地区; Pinyin: Ākèsū Dìqū; Ouïghour: ئاقسۇۋىلايىت/Aksu Vilayiti) is an administrative subdivision of the autonomous region of the Xinjiang in China. Its chief town is the town of Aksou.

Demography

The population is made up to approximately 72% of Ouïghours, and to 27% of Hans.

The population of the prefecture was estimated at: 2141000 inhabitants in 2000 and with: 2190000 inhabitants in 2004, and that of the town of Aksou with: 386379 inhabitants in 2007.

Transport

Aksou is located at more than 800 km by the road of the provincial capital Ürümqi. There exist three daily flights of the company China Southern Airlines between the airport of Aksou (Code AITA AKU) and Ürümqi.

Administrative divisions

The prefecture of Aksou exerts its jurisdiction on nine subdivisions - a city-county and eight counties  :
  • the town of Aksou - 阿克苏市 Ākèsū Shì   ;
  • the county of Wensu - 温宿县 Wēnsù Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Kuchar - 库车县 Kùchē Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Shayar - 沙雅县 Shāyǎ Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Toksu - 新和县 Xīnhé Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Baicheng - 拜城县 Bàichéng Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Uqturpan - 乌什县 Wūshí Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Awat - 阿瓦提县 Āwǎtí Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Kalpin - 柯坪县 Kēpíng Xiàn .
