The prefecture of Aichi (愛知県, Aichi-ken ) is a prefecture Japan located in the area of Chūbu.

Geography

The prefecture of Aichi is located at the center of the island of Honshū on the Pacific Ocean. Its population is of 7.150.457 inhabitants (in June 2003). The prefecture is divided downtown (市 shi ) and districts (郡 gun). The capital of the prefecture of Aichi is the town of Nagoya, which is subdivided in sixteen districts, the other important cities of the prefecture are Seto and Toyota. The prefecture of Aichi is bordered of the prefectures of Gifu and Nagano in north, Shizuoka in the east, and Mie in the west. In the south and south-east the sea is. There are two peninsulas, Chita and Atsumi in south-east. For its greater part, it is a plain, but is prefecture is mountainous.

Economy

The prefecture of Aichi is a great industrial center of Japan, and more particularly constitutes the industrial center of the Région of Chūbu. Its principal industry is auto industry. Toyota is one of the more large companies there.

Industries of the department (statistical main roads for the fiscal year 2002):

  • N° 1, in terms of production of wood (volume at exit of factory of flow of wood and derivative products of wood),
  • N° 1, in terms of turnover of manufactured goods at exit of factory,
  • N° 1, in terms of commercial turnover,
  • N° 5, in terms of turnover for the rough agricultural production.

History

At the time feudal existed two provinces, Owari and Mikawa. Rich person, they attracted famous Daimyō : Nobunaga Oda and Hideyoshi Toyotomi for the first, Ieyasu Tokugawa for the second. Nobunaga founds there the town of Nagoya and its fort.

Become Shogun in 1602, Ieyasu entrusts to his/her son most of Owari as a field. This one establishes its capital with Nagoya, which thrives during this period for this role and also for its position on the road Tōkaidō. The province of Mikawa is divided between daimyō having been used Tokugawa before their accession for the shogunat.

In 1871, the han are abolished and the prefectures created. Joined together Owari with Inuyama becomes the prefecture of Nagoya. The province of Mikawa is initially divided into ten prefectures, then unified as a prefecture of Nukata. Lastly, in 1872, the prefectures of Nagoya and Nukata amalgamate as a prefecture of Aichi.

In 2005, a World Fair was held of the March 25th with the September 25th, whose topic was the Wisdom of Nature .
