PAPI ( Precision Approach Path Indicator , or tilt clinometer of approach) is an instrument helping to carry out a correct approach (in the vertical plan) on a Aérodrome or a Aéroport. It is generally located on the side of the track, approximately 300 meters after the beginning of this one.

Operation

The PAPI is most of the time made up of four lamps on line. When the angle of incidence is correct, there are two lamps of red color, and two white. When the plane is too low, all the lamps become red, and when it is too high, they pass to the white.

The VASI goes in the same way, but the lamps are laid out differently: two front, two behind.
