Preacher is a Comic-book of Garth Ennis (scenario) and Steve Dillon (drawing). Titrate headlight of the collection " adulte" Vertigo initiated by cd. Comics, it reports the adventures of Jesse Custer, a young person Pasteur in the search of God.
The series received 4 Eisner Award, of which those of the Meilleur scenario writer (Best Writer) in 1998 and that of the Meilleure regular series (Best Continuing Series) in 1999.
Raised by his/her sadistic grandmother and her two henchmen in fear of the Lord, Jesse becomes in spite of him the reverend of a small village of New-Orleans. At his place the capacity appears then to be made obey of all by the grace of one vote which nobody can disobey.
Its meeting with Tulip', an young woman in mare and Cassidy, a Vampire Irish, will lead it in an escape ahead in the search of God, continued by the two servants of its grandmother and by the Saint of the Killers, a Cow-boy whose only motivation seems to be to kill it…
The special issues stick on the characters, adapting in their context: thus, one finds oneself in full western in that devoted to the Saint of the killers, in the skin of a teenager grunge in that on tronchdecul or in war of Irish independence, and arrived of an immigrant at the United States in that on Cassidy.
One can note in Preacher several references to passions of Garth Ennis, for example concerning the Western S (John Wayne appears in Jesse in the moments of doubt, a such Mentor).
As he had announced, Ennis stopped the series with episode 66. The editions Marvel Comics were not long in sticking its services; what made it possible the title Punisher to return, in the space of some numbers, on the front of the scene.
Thereafter, Ennis left its signature on good number of titles ( Nick Fury, Thor …), all confused editors, with the assistance of sound comparse Steve Dillon or of other draftsmen. The best of its production concerns the most realistic characters however, without capacities, with the detriment of the supermen whom he acknowledges to hate.
