Pratteln

Pratteln is a common Suisse of the canton of Basle-Countryside, located in the District of Liestal.

History

Located on the edges of the the Rhine, with the foot of the Plateau of Gempen the village is quoted for the first time under the name of Brattelo in 1103, like dependence of the convent St-Alban, of Basle. Well before, the area is colonized starting from the Neolithic as the archaeological excavations carried out in the area testify some and which also updated of the Tombe S Celtes, Roman and moyenâgeuses.

Starting from 1250, date of foundation of the local church, the commune is possession of the Eptinger family. At the time of the Earthquake of Basle of 1356, both Castle X of the family, built respectively on a hill and in the village, is destroyed. In 1476, the commune receives from the emperor Frederic III of the Holy roman Empire an exemption of Impôt S and the right to hold each year a market of 1st at October 3rd. In 1521, the whole of the possessions of the Eptinger family is sold at the town of Basle and Pratteln joined the Swiss Confederation then.

At the time of the disorders related to separations of the Canton of Basle, the village is partially destroyed on August 3rd, 1833 and is joined the Swiss Demi-canton of Basle-Countryside. June 7th, 1837 starts the extraction of Saumure of the saline Marais, thus marking the beginning of the industrialization of the commune.

Nowadays, the common one belongs to the Faubourg S of Basle. Several industries were established there, although the municipality protected the center and the south from village to offer housing of better quality to it corresponding to a high standard of living. The city of: 15000 inhabitants however counts the most rate from abroad of all the canton of Basle, particularly concentrated in the districts of of Plattenbau " Längi" and " Rankacker".

Economy

Among the many companies having a factory with Pratteln, one finds Henkel (produced care and of maintenance), Bombardier Transport (manufacture of Wagon S), Buss (industrial mixers) or Rohner (a chemical group).

Transport

The town of Pratteln is connected to Basle by the line 14 of tram. It is also on the railway lines CF Basle - Olten and Basle - Zurich. Lastly, it is on the layout of the highway A2.

Personalities

Paul Sacher, leader and industrialist is originating in Pratteln.

Monuments

The city has in particular a castle going back to 1275, a church of 1250 and the town hall which dates from the 16th century. A little outside the city is old a Rig drilling going back to 1837.
