Pratibha Devisingh Patil (Hindi: प्रतिभापाटील) (born the December 19th 1934 in Nadgaon, Maharashtra) is a political woman Indian elected president of India the July 19th 2007. It is the first woman to be reached this function. It succeeds Abdul Kalam the July 25th 2007.
It made its studies with the R.R. School de Jalgaon. It acquired a M.A. of Mooljee Jaitha (M.J.) College (associate with " North Maharashtra University" , Jalgaon) and obtained a diploma of Droit college of the Government, Mumbai (associate with the Université of Bombay). During its years of college, it was excellent in table tennis, gaining many championships inter-colleges. In 1962, Pratibha Patil was elected " Queen of College" M.J. College. The same year, she was elected with the elections of the assembly of Edlabad to make party of the national congress.
She married a professor, Devisingh Ransingh Shekhawat, the July 7th 1965. The couple has a son and a girl. It was its third marriage.
Pratibha Patil started its political career in 1962 at the 27 years age. Thanks to his mentor at the same time chief of the Congress and minister Yashwantrao Chavan, it became minister-assistant of education after the re-election of 1967 (with the ministry of Vasantrao Naik). Its following mandate (1972 - 1978) enabled him to become minister with whole share for the State. At the successive governments of the congress, it held the wallet of tourism, social conditions under several Prime Ministers, Vasantdada Patil, Babasaheb Bhosle, S.B. Chavan and Sharad Pawar. She was continuously re-elected at the assembly, that is to say by Jalgaon or the assembly of the surroundings, until in 1985, when she was elected with the Rajya Sabha like candidate with the Congress. It lost only one election forever.
Member of the Left the Congress and lawyer formation, it is Député E of Amravati to the Lok Sabha (the Indian Lower House) of 1991 with 1996.

Before leaving Jaipur for New Delhi, Pratibha Patil thanked Sonia Gandhi for having chosen it and declared that its first gesture as a president would be to set up a law guaranteeing rural employment " Rural national Employment Guarantee Act" (NREGA) in order to contribute to the success of the UPA. In Delhi, she affirmed that she would not be a president with the reduction.
Accompanied by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the chief by the Congress Sonia Gandhi, on June 23rd it fills its nomination which was then validated after the poll. She faced Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, the supported candidate by NDA, in a rather hard combat. She visited the capitals of the States in order to obtain supports. Its countryside was the starting point so that the party of UNPA abstains from voting.
The leader of opposition L K Advani intervened at the commission of the elections in India in order to obtain that Pratibha Patil declares its goods, which was then rejected by the Commission.
Shiv Sena, an important ally of NDA gave its support for Pratibha Patil, directly on the ground by declaring that it would be the first maharatie to be reached such a prestigious station. This election has creates the disorder within BJP-Sena alliance.
