Praia da Armação C Pântano C Sul

Praia da Armação C Pântano C Sul , or simply Praia da Armação , is a Plage of the municipality of Florianópolis, with the Brésil. It is located at the south-east of the island of Santa Catarina, between the beaches of Morro das Pedras and Matadeiro.

It is about the one of the principal centers of artisanal fishing of Florianópolis. Located at 25 km of the center, the traditional activity cohabits with the Tourisme and the practice of the Surf.

The name armação comes from its old economic activity, of time when it was devoted to the production of oil of Baleine for the public lighting. The other parts of the Cetacea, like the meat and the Fanon S were also exploited. Following the quasi-extinction of these species because of their hunting, the right whales are now strongly protected. Their observation within the framework of tourism constitutes today a source of returned for the Santa Catarina.

At the historical level, the church of Sant' Anna, built in 1772 is the principal attraction of the locality. The crews of the boats of hunting for the whale came to request there and to confess themselves to it before leaving at sea. The priest went down then to the beach to bless the boats. There remain almost nothing the original church, following the two restoration campaigns undergone in 1838 and especially in 1948 which modified the frontage of the building completely.

The place where the fishermen with the whale found themselves formerly was transformed into a bar which accommodates today the tourists in a traditional decoration.
