Known as of the 10th century for its sources of the valley of Besque and Quayre, downward brook of Gévaudan.
Prades is a village border between Gabales and Vellaves allied Gallic tribes of Arvernes. This close plain Allier was always the frontier orchard of Gévaudan and of Velay, then some think of seeing the passage of the Gallic road there called the " Boléne".
