The toponym Préchacq-Josbaig appears in the forms Preciani (comments of César), Prexac (XIe century, according to Pierre de Marca), Prexacum (XIIe century, collection Duchesne volume CXIV), Prexac-with-Yeusbag (1368, notaries of Lucq-with-Béarn), Prexac-in-Jeus-Bag (1385, censier of Béarn), Preyxac-with-Jeusbag (1396, notaries of Lucq-of-Béarn), Prexac-beyond (1572, reformation of Béarn), Saincte-Marie-Magdeleine de Prexach (1676, insinuations of the diocese of Oloron) and Prexacq in Josbaig (1676, reformation of Béarn).

History

Paul Raymond note which the commune counted a laic abbey, vassal of the Viscount of Béarn.
In 1385, Préchacq-Josbaig counted 30 fires and depended on the Bailliage of Oloron.
