The Centrale of the democratic trade unions is a formed Québécois central trade-union the June 8th 1972 following a trade-union line schism with the remainder of the Confederation of the National unions (CSN). During its formation the CSD with drained 30  000 members of the CSN.

History

The power station was originally formed by three dissenting members of the executive of the CSN, that is to say Paul-Emile Dalpé, Jacques Dion and Amédée Daigle commonly called the three " D" by the Québécois trade-union medium. The formation of the CSD was the expression of a faintness and dissension of certain members of the CSN with the hardening of the positions and the adoption of trade unionism of combat by the power station. Its formation coincides with the Québécois formation of the first Common front of the central trade-unions against the government of the Quebec and with last the moment of the Quiet revolution

Today

The CSD recommends a certain collaboration still today and a dialog with employers and the State and refuses with the political action if the interest of its members is not concerned. She preaches political neutrality, which kept it away of the Québécois political debates, of which the debates chief clerks, and who distinguishes it from CSN, CSQ and FTQ.

The CSD mainly gathers workers and workers of the private sector, and especially of the manufacturing sector and it is smallest of the four central trade-unions Québécois with approximately 4% and 61.000 members of trade-union manpower of the province. It is maintenat chaired by François Vaudreuil.

The CSD is affiliated with the world Confédération of work (CMT), and is member of the international Trade-union confederation (CSI).
