Power station of Beauharnois
The central of Beauharnois is a Hydroelectric station with the current of Hydro-Quebec built on the Fleuve the St. Lawrence, in the west of Montreal.
The 38 turbine-alternators groups are provided out of water by the channel of Beauharnois arranged for this purpose between 1929 and 1932. This power station is located at the exit of the Canal of Beauharnois, close to Melocheville, with the Quebec.
Contruite between 1932 and 1961, it is today property of Hydro-Quebec and belonged to the Sea route of the St. Lawrence. Its construction was preceded by the Scandale of Beauharnois, where Beauharnois Light, Heath and Power Co. made gift of 700000 $ with the Liberal party of Quebec and Canada in order to obtain the right to derive water from the Fleuve St-Laurent to build the power station there.
Of a power of 1658 MW, the power station of Beauharnois one of the most powerful power stations of the current type (without genuine tank) is still today built to date.
