PowerBook G4 Titanium

Left in January 2001, the PowerBook Titanium (called TiBook affectionately) was the first Apple portable to integrate a processor PowerPC G4. It was also a radical change in the design: whereas its predecessors used a case out of black plastic all in roundnesses, PowerBook G4 comes in a metal case (made in pure Titane to 99,5%) sober ultra-end to the strict lines. It was the first Laptop to integrate a screen 15 inches, which more is with the panoramic format. In spite of its gigantic screen, it is much finer and light that the PowerBook G3 Pismo which preceded it (2,4 kg for 2,6 cm thickness compared with 2,8 kg and 4,3 cm thickness).

At the technical level it appeared much more powerful than its predecessors containing G3 for an identical frequency of operation: 400 and 500 MHz for a bus with 100 MHz. An update end 2002 brought, in addition to a processor and a faster bus (respectively 667 MHz and 133 MHz), a Mémoire hiding place faster given rhythm at the speed of the processor, a more powerful video chart (ATI Radeon), as well as a port Ethernet 1000 Basset hound (a first for a portable).

A major update took place in April 2002: the processor climbed up to 800 MHz, the video chart was more powerful (Radeon 7500 with memory, the portable chart most powerful at that time) and they embarked a memory of level 3 of moreover. A new more luminous screen allowed a resolution until in 1280 X 854. The battery was replaced by one more enduring, allowing up to 6 hours of office automation autonomy of use. Video out VGA was also replaced by a numerical video out DVI.

An ultimate update came in November 2002, which was satisfied with booster rocket the frequencies with 867 MHz and 1 GHz and to replace the video chart by more powerful. Engraver DVD also appeared in option on the model high-of-range.

PowerBook Titanium was replaced by the PowerBook G4 15" Aluminum in September 2003, allowing to standardize the range compared to the new models 12" and 17" aluminum (the choice of this material compared to titanium was justified by the fact that the painting of PowerBook Titanium tended to be scaled).
