Poveglia is an small island located in the Lagune of Venice in Italy, between the town of Venice and the dune of Lido.

She enjoys a not very enviable past and is considered, for some, like a place considered for paranormaux phenomena. At the time of the Roman Empire, the island was used to isolate from the thousands of victims of the Peste and to three recoveries when the Black Death was spread through Europe. The island was indeed a place of burial of the victims of this terrible disease: An effective means judged to separate people reached from those known as in health. It is necessary to believe that more 160  000 people would have died on this island throughout its history.

Poveglia was the residence of a small community until it is abandoned about 1380 during the Guerre of Chioggia between Venice and Genoa.

In 1922, a psychiatric hospital was built on the island. There were persistent rumors with the effect that patients, after their arrival, saw tormented spirits, victims of the plague. The doctor residing investigua these phenomena by leading medical lobotomies and experiments. According to testimonys, this one would have been victim of the same phenomena and committed suicide by throwing bell-tower of the hospital. After these incidents, the hospital was given up and remains uninhabited since.

Today, the island is used for agriculture (especially the vine growing) and is not accessible to the tourists.
