Pouzin

Pouzin is a common French, located in the department of the Ardèche and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

The city has a situation privileged at the edge of the the Rhone. Located at 25 km in the south of Valence and 25 km in the north of Montélimar, Pouzin is also with 6 kilometers in the west of Loriol-sur-Drôme, on Right Bank of the Rhone, with the outlet of the valley of the Ouvèze and junction R.N. 86 and the R.N. 304. The two localities are connected by the R.N. 304 and one bridge on the the Rhone.

Whereas the Northern part of Pouzin is enclosed between the Rhone and the calcareous hill which dominates it, to the south of Ouvèze the valley extends and allows an important extension of the agglomeration. The city has seen for a few years developing a seedbed of Entreprise S, tradesmen, an artisanal zone, an industrial park very close to the port on the the Rhone.

History

Old Roman city, destroyed by the Vandals at the 5th century, then by Buckwheats at the 8th century. Since 1228, Pouzin belonged to the goods whose Louis II inherits Poitiers (Louis Valentinois) which being deceased with Baix left with the Dolphin of France (future Charles VII) all its dependancies of Right Bank of the Rhone (except for Baix).

Pouzin, bolt on the valley of the the Rhone, had to support very many destruction during the wars of religion; feudal city then Protestant fortified town, it was plundered and burned by the royal armies in 1629.

Because of its strategic position at the edge of the Rhone, the city was almost entirely shaven at the time of the Second world war in 1944, by the American bombardments then the German reprisals. The city was rebuilt thereafter.
