Pourcieux

Pourcieux ( Pourcièu in Of Provence) is a common French, located in the department of the Var and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

Geography

Pourcieux is a small village located at the extreme west of the department of the Var, image alive of the Provence of Frederic Mistral, with his houses of vine growers built around his castle, its place shaded by plane trees centenaries under which murmur a fountain. Its sunny slopes are spread out with the feet of the Monts Auréliens, with little distance from the Montagne Holy-Victoire and of her landscapes immortalized by Cézanne.

History

According to the popular belief the village, in the past called Porcals or Porcilis, would draw its name from the pigsties installed here and the trade of the pigs which was done there. This assumption is plausible when one knows that into of Provence " Pourcieou" mean " literally; roof with cochon" , and that water essential to such a breeding did not miss since the village is sprinkled by the Arc. However, certain historians make derive the name from a Roman Consul, named Porcius, which would have been useful under Caius Marius, the winner of the Barbarians with Pourrières, in -102, at the end of a particularly bloody battle. The body of Porcius would be buried under the ground of the commune.

Pourcieux belongs initially to the Viscounts of Marseilles. Guillaume Ier divides the seigniory between his/her children, which enters 1008 and 1020 give two thirds of them to the abbey of St Victor. This one still has them in 1252. At that time, the third remaining is with Burgondion de Trets and passes to its descendants born Mabille d' Agout Ponteves, this family is still present at the 18th century.

At the 16th century, Pourcieux counted 60 houses, 10 country houses and a population of 300 hearts of " communion". It was simple a Fief seigneurial without title of marquisat, count or baronnie. Marc Antoine de Vitali, resident with Aix, was recognized lord in 1645. It had the 2/3 of the jurisdiction and exerted during 2 years out of 3 the rights of high, average and low justice. Gaspard d' Honorat, Auguste d' Agoult residents in Pourcieux, Gaspard d' Agoult, brother of this last, marquis d' Ollières, resident in Marseilles by sentence of expédients March 20th 1706 was declared Co-lords with 1/3 of the jurisdiction.

In 1756, Pazery, lord of Thorame buys Pourcieux and the community sends two as of his to carry homage and oath of fidelity to the new lord and to recognize it like only lord and high dispenser of justice of this place and its soil. Personalities related to the commune

Victor Chavet, painter under Napoleon III, was born in Pourcieux, in 1822. Part of its fabrics are exposed to the Musée of Louvre. He died in the Creusot in 1906.
