Pougne-Hedgehog

Pougne-Hedgehog is a common French, located in the department of the Two-Sevres and the area Poitou-Charentes.

Geography

The commune is formed of the meeting of two boroughs, Pougne and Hérisson, distant of 3 km. The meeting of the two communes intervened in 1801.

Located into full Gâtine poitevine in a granitic area, the hedges are numerous there and the granite rocks flower there.

Since 1990, the commune autoproclamée navel of the world. According to the local legend, all the stories of the world would have started from this navel at the time of Big Bang Mythologique. Biennial takes place there around the August 15th and a garden of the stories gathering the collections of machines with tarabuster the ore of tales of Robert jarry is open. Pougne-hedgehog is the seat of the faculty of ombilicology and the association of the navels of the world (last twinning goes back to it on August 15th, 2000 with pole star navel from the galaxy).

History

The name of Hedgehog would come from the Germain Heric, camp militaire.
This borough is important with the Middle Ages, a weekly market is held as of the 14th century. It is then a possession of the lords of Parthenay. Until the Revolution, Pougne-Hedgehog was very attended by the merchants and the pilgrims. The castle, the priory and the vault of the 12th century are the witnesses of a flourishing medieval life.

Church Saint-Georges-of-Hedgehog (property of the commune). Registered on the additional Inventory of the historic buildings, by decree of September 21st 1990. Partial protection: the chorus and its two Span S.

Events

Autoproclamé “Navel of the World” under the impulse of the storyteller poitevin Yannick Jaulin, the commune of Pougne-Hedgehog organizes, the even years, a biennial Festival of the Navel. The ninth edition took place in 2006. The odd years, the Navel of the World, pastoral arts center, organizes one cultural season, plentiful of spectacles of tale, theater, music… From April at October, one can visit the garden of stories of the Navel of the World, cradle of the tales and legends of the whole world…

This festival, whose watchword are the benaisery and user-friendliness, centers its programming around Conte S, Chanson S, Théâtre, Théâtre of street, Humor, contest of Scénario S of court-measurings, spectacles for children… the whole in a nombrilesque, atypical and shifted environment…

Twinnings

Without being formally twinned, the commune maintains the extremely friendly bonds with Chevilly-Larue (94), where the House of the Tale is installed, like with Montembœuf (16), the Island of Groix (56).
