Potential postsynaptic
A potential postsynaptic (PPS) is the unit signal produced downstream from a Synapse. It is about a transitory change of the potential difference electrochemical established on both sides membrane.
From an informational point of view, there are two types of PPS:
- the postsynaptic potential dischargers (PPSE) correspond to a depolarization of the membrane, which increases the probability that the Neuron discharge a Potentiel of action;
- the postsynaptic potential inhibiters (PPSI) correspond to a hyperpolarisation of the membrane, which decreases the probability of the discharge.
From a kinetic point of view, one describes slow PPS and fast PPS . The generation of the slow PPS is due to the activation of ionic channels via receiving métabotropes, whereas that of the fast PPS is due to the direct activation of Récepteur ionotrope.
