Postulates of Koch

The postulates of Koch in their original version, and their adaptation to the molecular techniques , make it possible to confirm the role etiologic of a micro-organism in a Maladie.

Original version

  1. the micro-organism is isolated in each case from the disease, giving an account of the clinical and anatomopathologic modifications.

  2. the micro-organism is insulated in no other disease like contaminant.
  3. the micro-organism can again induce the disease after it was insulated and cultivated.

Version based on the molecular techniques

  1. the nucleic sequence of the micro-organism must be found in the majority of the cases of the disease.

  2. the nucleic sequence of the micro-organism should not be found (or seldom) at unscathed individuals.
  3. the nucleic sequence must be detected by hybridization in the pathological zones of a fabric or a body, and not be detected in the healthy zones of same fabric or body.
  4. the number of copies of the nucleic sequence of pathogenic must vary the clinical evolutions parallel to, including under treatment.
  5. the identification of the micro-organism deduced from the nucleic sequence must be compatible with the known biological properties for the phylum to which it belongs.
  6. These molecular results must be reproducible.
