Charles Jules Henri Nicole , born the September 21st 1866 with Rouen and deceased the February 28th 1936 with Tunis, is a doctor and microbiologist French.

He works initially at the hospital of Rouen where he produces the anti-diphtheric Sérum . In 1903, it takes the direction of the Institut Pasteur of Tunis (which it directs until his death) where it carries out research on various infectious illness of which the Typhus and the Brucellose and on the role of the animals in their propagation. He works with Ernest Conseil and Charles Count on a exanthematic epidemic of typhus which prevails in Tunis. The team shows in 1909 that the principal agent vector of the disease is the louse. Indeed, the doctors note the scarcity of the cases of typhus inside the Sadiki hospital. The payment of this institution forced the patients to wear only the clothes of the hospital. Starting from this observation, the team concludes that simple acts of Hygiène and the removal of the parasite are enough to ensure the Prophylaxie plague and to save lives. It receives the Nobel Prize of medicine in 1928 and is elected member of the Academy of Science in 1929.

It has this prophetic sentence concerning the appearance of new diseases: There will be thus new diseases. It is a fatal fact.
