Postal The Service
The Postal Service is a group independent of music electro - Pop composed of the singer of Death Cab For Cutie, Benjamin Gibbard, and of the producer Jimmy Tamborello. The duet has only one album, Give Up , published in 2003.
Origins
Benjamin Gibbard is the singer of Death Cab For Cutie since the Années 1990. Jimmy Tamborello is on its side a known artist of Electronic music in particular under the pseudonym Dntel. The project The Postal Service was born following collaboration from Gibbard with a piece of Dntel entitled " (This Is) The Dream off Evan and Chan" , on the album Life Is Full off Possibilities . Gibbard and Tamborello decided to continue their collaboration, creating The Postal Service . Tamborello composed of the audio tracks, sending as of December 2001 the recordings by postal mail to Gibbard, localized with the other end of the the United States. Thus the name " Postal The Service" was selected.
First album
Give Up is appeared the February 18th 2003, and was followed of a round, notwithstanding the fact that the two artists continued their respective work with their principal projects. The disc, single album of Postal The Service to date, became the most popular album of the label Sub Pop since Bleach of Nirvana. In addition to Ben Gibbard to the song, one finds on Give Up the invited voices of Jenny Lewis (singer of the group Rilo Kiley) and of Jen Wood. The album was produced by the guitarist of Death Cab For Cutie, Chris Walla, which also exploits of the guitar and the piano certain pieces.
The first part of the disc, Such Great Heights , for which a Vidéo-clip was carried out, was taken again by Iron & Wine, then by Ben Folds.
Second album
In June 2006, it was revealed that The Postal Service had started with floor on a second album. However, nothing still was born. Jimmy Tamborello said in February 2007 to have six parts for a possible successor with Give Up . Meanwhile, in addition to making several remixes , The Postal Service took again Grow Old With Me , a song of John Lennon, for the album Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur .
Discusses surrounding the name of the project
In 2004, the Postal service of the United States forwarded to the group an order known as Cease and desist , requiring of them to cease using to them Brand name. After negotiations between the two parts, United States Postal Service authorized The Postal Service has to use this name, in exchange of promotional effort of the group in favor of the USPS, and in a concert to their convention, the November 17th 2004. Moreover, the album Give Up was sold on the Web site Postal service.
