It constitutes the continuation of the play Postal left in 1997, itself having been very discussed.

The postal term “ ” comes here from the American expression “ going postal ” which literally means “to make murders in mass”. This expression refers to a series of massacre perpetrated in the Années 1970 by postal workers to the the United States of America.

Gameplay

The player incarnates marginal who has a tendency to hysterical behaviors, the Postal Dude . It is a large and fine man, who carries sunglasses and a large black coat. The play occurs in the fictitious city of Arizona, called Paradise , and cuts out in 5 days, of the Monday to Friday. The player must carry out various tasks throughout each one of his days.

For example, the first mission consists in going to seek the check of the pay in a company of video games. But the latter is taken by storm by demonstrators against violence in the video games. The following missions vary between depositing the check at the bank, various races to be made, of the visit to the family, to return a book to the library… But often, an event independent of Postal Dude will make the mission more difficult. With regard to the purchases, it proves quickly that the starting check is not sufficient for all to take. The player will then see himself constrained to find money while killing out of the passers by, while penetrating in the houses, by making a break-in at the bank… or then to attack the salesman not to have to pay. The situation can thus generate much free violence.

Following the example series Large Theft Car , the play seeks to be non-linear while making it possible to the player to explore Paradise . However, and like also does it AWG, the first levels happen in a zone delimited, which opens while progressing in the play.

Each day which passes, the passers by are better and better armed, of new equipment are available, like armours in the place of the waistcoat of protection in Kevlar, the representative of the order leave room to soldiers.

The adventure playground is cut out in several zones, which requires a time of loading to pass from the one to the other.

The play also comprises a Caméo of Gary Coleman which makes a short appearance during a mission or the player must obtain his autograph.

The cars are present in the play, but cannot be led.

Note: There exists a level hidden behind the caravan that Postal Dude lives, in a driving tunnel with the sewers. These sewers are inhabited by thousands of Moslem fanatics to the physique of Usama Bin Laden. While evolving/moving in these sewers, you will be able to find a weapon bacteriological new and walls of prayers, amongst other things. In the same way, the secret tunnel with one way (you can borrow it only in one direction) who share of the reserve of the store locates " talibannes" and arrives in a bush in front of the library, allows to recover a rocket launcher and to measure themselves for that with death-alive dogs which one cannot kill.

Discusses

The developers refute criticisms on the violence of their play by explaining why the player is free, and that it is alone to decide or not, of the use of violence to arrive at its ends. The developers point out that the various missions to achieve can be carried out without the player not generating violence, but this one can deliberately create it.

In spite of that, the critics consider that the play encourages the player to have a behavior of killer. Indeed, of the groups of inhabitants of Paradise can also attack the player only because they hate it. Besides there exist groups against about all, the books (demonstrators), Christianity (Talibans) and even against the video games! Lastly, there are often long tails during the missions what often pushes to draw in the heap in order to go more quickly.

Kimveer Gill, the killer of the Dawson college in Montreal (Quebec), played regularly all versions of Postal and got dressed daily as the Postal Dude of which it had moreover physical appearance. Since the slaughter of September 13rd, 2006, the prohibition of sale of the plays of the kind is evoked more and more in Quebec and Canada.

A good number of elements of the decoration as the names of stores have a relationship with violence and the black Humor. For example, on publicities for a life insurance, the slogan used is “ Hey Kids! Your parents are going to DIE! ”, “Eh Children! Your parents WILL DIE! ”)
