Post central of Dublin
The central Poste of Dublin (in English General Post Office , in Irish Árd Oifig year Phoist ) is the seat of An Post, the Irish Post office. It is located at the angle of Henry Street and O' Connell Street. Its main entrance is on O' Connell Street.
It entered the history like the general headquarter of the Insurrection of Easter 1916: the April 24th 1916, Monday of Easter, the members of the Irish Volunteers Forces and the Irish Citizen Army takes by to storm the Post office and occupy it, as well as other official buildings of the city. They proclaim there the Irish Republic before succumbing to British repression.
The building, drawn by Francis Johnson, is strongly damaged on this occasion. It will be restored by the State Libre of Ireland. A statue of Cúchulainn, the most famous hero of the Celtic Mythology Irish, is placed in front of the building to commemorate rising.
