The post-punk is a musical current appeared towards the end of the Années 1970, in echo with the beachcomber Punk, characterized by various groups emblematic such as Public Image Ltd, The Birthday Party, Gang off Furnace, Joy Division, The Fall or Wire.
Roots
In the same way how the punk movement has roots in the Rock garage of the Années 1960 and the New Yorkean scene of the Seventies, thepunk one was influenced by currents like the
Krautrock (
Neu!,
Edge,
Kraftwerk.), certain unclassable (
The Residents,
Captain Beefheart) or a certain part of the progressive rock'n'roll (
Robert Wyatt,
Brian Eno…). One can also quote
David Bowie and the Velvet Underground like sources of the movement. And a certain curiosity for the inventiveness of the
Funk and the
Disco music which one finds in forms deteriorated in pieces of Maximum Joy or of RIP Rig & Panic.
Description
Thepunk one assumes the punk heritage and a certain independence with respect to the Music industry. The sound is generally more complex and artistic that the traditional Punk, which is much more direct to him and violent one. This tendency is translated in the invention of a more experimental, more radical music and perhaps more rebel in this direction. This movement is expressed actively on scene and nourishes many fanzines and independent labels - mainly in Europe (
London and
Berlin).
Thepunk one actively contributed to emergence again current musical at the beginning of the the Eighties, such as the New wave (The Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order…) or the Gothic Rock'n'roll (Bauhaus for example).
One attends also today the emergence of a certain revival of the post-punk music, with groups like Liars, !!! or Moving Units, but this one remains still very directed Indie rock'n'roll .
It is also interesting to note that the term post-punk is rather paradoxical, the punks preaching the No Future .
