Portuguese immigration in Brazil

Portuguese immigration bound for the Brésil is, beside immigrations Italian, Spanish and German, one of four more important of the country. This migratory flux starts at the 16th century and reaches its apogee at the beginning of the 20th century. One can divide it into four periods:

  1. restricted Immigration (colonial period: 1500-1700)
  2. Immigration of transition (1700-1850)
  3. Immigration masses (1850-1960)
  4. declining Immigration of it (of 1960 to our days)

They are the Brazilian ones of Portuguese origin. It is estimated that 55 million Brazilian has Portuguese origins according to the colonial period. These figures would be underestimated, since there are also many Brazilian with Portuguese origins of for the colonial period.
