Portmap
Portmap is a software Demon under Unix/Linux which converts the numbers of programs RPC into numbers of software port DARPA.
Its initial goal was to limit the number of ports used, but it had little success and is more used only for
- NFS (file-sharing)
- FAM (monitor of modification of file)
- NIS, software of Annuaire become practically obsolete).
History
The first version of this software was used with BSD 4.3.
Example of list of ports RPC
The following list shows the various programs and their version and which ports they use.
For example, it shows that demons NFS of 2 versions different (V2 and V3) are in the course of execution and can be reached via the ports TCP 2049 or UDP port 2049.
