Portlaoise

Portlaoise ( Port Laoighise in Irish) is a city of the Comté of Laois in Irish Republic.

Previously named Maryborough, is the capital of the County of Laois (in the past Comté of Queen) in the interior of Ireland.

The Irish name means “Extremely of Laois”.

The town of Portlaoise counts 18.275 inhabitants.

In June 2007, Rotimi Adebari, a Nigerian " resident étranger" , was elected with the head of the municipal council. It is the first black mayor in Ireland.
