Port of the Collet

History

During centuries, Bourgneuf, commune to which was attached the Collet, was a large exporter of salt, salt which was produced in the saline Marais S of the littoral. At the end of the 15th century, more than 200 Navire S charge in the Baie with Brittany bound for the ports with the the Baltic, large consumers for their saltings. The Collet is in fact before port of Bourgneuf which had become too much ensablé. This activity ensures a prosperity to which still the last testify beautiful houses to Armateur S built with Bourgneuf-in-Retz. The Collet was the first salt exporter of France, finally of Brittany at the time, a trade which took part in the economic advancement of the Duché of Brittany.

Gradually, the silting of bay causes the end of the salt export starting from the Port of the Collet (about the 18th century) and obliges the Bateau X to seek their cargo with Brouage (Charente-Maritime), then with Setúbal (Portugal).

Today

The Aquiculture and especially the Ostréiculture (Oyster S the Vendée-Atlantic) give an economic second breath to the area. The oyster of the Baie of Bourgneuf is very famous.

The Port of the Collet is appreciated Pêcheur S with the line, which benefit from the lock on the Falleron, recently rebuilt after the demolition of the old lock (1879) to shoe Anguille S and mules. One on the whole counts an about sixty Mouillage S on piers. With the mouth of the port take seat of many Pêcherie S provided with broad sail needle S and this to the borough of the Moutiers-in-Retz.
