Port of Banana

The Port of Banana is a port of the Democratic republic of Congo located at Banana in the Low-Congo. It is on northern bank of the mouth of the Congo, in a bay opening towards the river, the sandy isthmus of Banana protecting the port from the Atlantic Ocean. It is also located out of the principal course of the river. The port is managed by ONATRA.

Wearing of goods

The port is composed of only one quay, a length of approximately 75 meters, for a depth of approximately 5 meters. The ships must have their own material of unloading, the port not having crane in operating condition. Warehouse of 2.500 m ².

The possibilities of exploitation of the port are limited, Banana and the locality close to Moanda not having neither railroad nor of a motor-road in good state.

The port accommodates in a twice-weekly way the high-speed motorboat Kalamu coming from Boma, upstream on the river.

Oil terminal

The access to oil terminal SOCIR (located at the north of bay) is done by damping in bay. The loading is done by pipes of 8 inches making it possible to charge 400 tons/hour, by barges carrying out the shuttle with the site of storage.

A deep water port is considered, without precise plans until now.
