Port authority of Rouen
The port authority of Rouen is a public corporation which jointly exerts public service missions administrative and public service missions related to commercial industrial and which is managed like a public corporation related to commercial industrial and (EPIC). It ensures the management of the harbor installations of Rouen and of low the the Seine. It is the fifth port of Commerce French in term of total tonnage.
Port activity
The port activity is distributed along the Seine between Rouen and Honfleur on approximately 120 km. The port of Le Havre, port out of deep water at the end of the Estuary of the Seine, is managed independently by the Port authority of Le Havre. The principal installations are located:
- in the agglomeration of Rouen, downstream from the Guillaume-the-Conquering bridge, and spreads out mainly along left bank of the river, being prolonged on Grand-Quevilly, Small-Crown and Large-Crown,
- with Saint-Wandrille (Right Bank),
- with Port-Jerome (Right Bank),
- with Honfleur (left bank) in partnership with the Chamber of commerce and of industry of the Country of Trough.
Rouen is also a river Port important. The navigable Seine (gauge classifies V) the met in relation to the Île-de-France, which represents an at the same time dense and close back-country. Rouen is at 24 hours of navigation of the Port of Gennevilliers, which is the principal site of the Port authority of Paris.
For the goods, all confused tonnages, Rouen is the 5th French port (behind Marseilles, Le Havre, Dunkirk, Saint-Nazaire) and the 28e European port. It is the 1st European port for the Céréale S, 1st French for the Farine and the Engrais. The oil traffic , less important than that of Le Havre, is related to the activity of the Raffinerie S of Small-Crown and Port-Jerome as well as installations of storage. The harbor Silo S of Rouen represent a storage capacity higher than 1 million tons.
In the field of the passengers, Rouen periodically receives Paquebot S of Croisière.
Largest sailing S of the world gathers in Rouen periodically. This event was baptized Voiles of freedom in 1989, Armada of freedom in 1994 and Armada of the century in 1999. The last edition, Armada Rouen 2003 in July 2003 accommodated fifty ships, six thousand sailors of twenty different nationalities, six million visitors, tens of demonstrations and animations. The next demonstration of this type will take place in 2008.
