Port authority of Paris

The port authority of Paris ( PAP ) is a public corporation French charged to manage the harbor installations located on the 500 km of inland waterways of Île-de-France. It is a public corporation which exerts missions related to administration, industrial and commercial. Its mission first is to develop the river traffic in Île-de-France.

The PAP has a statute of a public corporation related to commercial industrial and (EPIC). It employs 200 people. Its turnover rises to 58 million euros and comes primarily from the hiring from grounds and quay levels (58%) and from real estate of company (27%).

The unit managed by the PAP includes/understands 10 km ² the spaces harbor, gathered on 70 sites, distributed along the the Seine and its affluents:

The PAP in 2005 is the first river Port interior French, in front of Strasbourg, and the second of Europe, behind Duisbourg (Germany).

In 2005 the annual traffic rose to 20,8 million ton S of goods, including 20,4 in river traffic and 0,4 in fluvio-maritime international traffic via the Seine downstream. The principal exchanges are done with the Ile-de-France (intra-regional traffic 9,7 MT), High-Normandy (7,5 MT), Burgundy (0,9 MT), Belgium (0,7 MT) and Picardy (0,8 MT). Unloadings override the loadings (12,7 MT against 8 MT). The transported goods are mainly the construction materials (15,8 MT), the agricultural produce (1,7 MT), the containers whose traffic is in strong growth (0,8 MT -: 73000 containers), the coal which is used by the thermo plants located upstream of Paris on the Seine (0,9 MT) and the oil products (0,4 MT).

In addition seven million passengers borrowed the installations of the Wearing of Paris (water-bus, etc).

River main ports of Ile-de-France

The installations of the port are distributed downstream from Paris (Gennevilliers in the Hauts de Seine, Limay in Yvelines), in Paris and upstream of Paris (Bonneuil on Marne). The most important installations are managed by the Port authority of Paris but about half of the traffic is done by private ports (9,2 MT). The main ports concerned with the PAP are:
  • Port of Gennevilliers: it is the most important installation. The traffic is of 3,3 MT. It is served by a railway junction and a pipeline. The majority of the traffic containers is done starting from this port.

  • Wearing of Bonneuil-sur-Marne, it is the second installation in importance (1 MT). She comprises a railway junction.
  • Port of Limay, 125 ha, created in an old gravel pit,
  • Basin of the Arsenal, the marina of Paris.
