Port-la-Nouvelle
Port-la-Nouvelle in Occitan Novèla , is a common French, located in the department of the Aude and the area Languedoc-Roussillon.
Geography
Port-la-Nouvelle is located at 22 kilometers in the south of Narbonne. It is populated approximately 5000 inhabitants. The city is in full transformation with the restoration of the public places. A Marina is also in project.

History
Port-the-news during the Second world war
The mayor of Port-the-news at the beginning of the Second world war was Charles Palauqui. Its policy not going enough in the direction of the national Revolution, it is replaced by Joseph Mouret in 1941. Following an order of the prefect of the September 13rd 1939, Port-the-news is classified among the common sensitive department. The plan of civil defense will be applied there until the arrival of the German troops in 1942.
In March 1941, plus any traffic is not allowed in the port and the dredging of this last knows some problems.
The headlight (rebuilt then in 1949 - 1950 on the course Leucate) is put except service by the Armistice Council in 1942. Its lens is dismounted in November and the August 19th 1944, its turret is dynamited.
The November 12th 1942, they is 500 soldiers who invest the village, the Occupation is then total. The German staff requisitions the villas of the sea front as well as the Rapin establishment.
There are then suspension of the port activities and requisition of the strategic places as the station, the companies and the trade. The paralysis is total, which worsens the situation of the inhabitants whose it quasi totality is forced to exile itself in 1944 in the back-country or towards the close departments.
One attends then the construction of Blockhaus, with the installation of networks of mines at the entry of the channel, on the beach and at the level of the grounds surrounding the commune. At the south of the agglomeration is set up anti-tank channel a 1,3 km length and 5 m broad. The parapet of the walk of the sea front is destroyed (in order not to obstruct the shooting of the guns towards the broad one). Vis-a-vis the church a Blockhaus is built where are stored Munition S of all gauges.
With the beginning of the year 1944, the Germans make evacuate the population. According to an instruction of the 7 and January 10th of Feldkommandantur, 50% of the inhabitants must leave Port-the-news before the February 29th and the remainder before the March 15th. The January 18th, Feldkommandantur learns in Nouvellois that the personnel essential administrative services are authorized to remain at the village (station, Poste, police force of port… etc). Finally the April 19th 1944, 388 people are authorized to remain on the spot. The access to the commune is again authorized starting from the August 22nd 1944, three days after the departure of the troops of Occupation.

The Port commercial of Port-la-Nouvelle was located in 2005 at the 17th rank of the French ports with 2.200.000 tons of Marchandise S treated, mainly of the oil products and of the Céréale S. It is also a port of fishing having its clean Criée. The port is managed by the Chamber of commerce and of industry of Narbonne - Lézignan-Corbières and Port-la-Nouvelle.Local industry covers: oil warehouses, alcohol, Cement factory Lafarge SA, Saline of the South, supply of Concrete.
