History
The September 2nd 1866, Port-de-Bouc became a commune.Embracing the sea, the city affirms its calling industrial and maritime, it becomes marine ground. The art of the boats, of the transformation of energies resulting from the sea found its home port.
In 1850 for the development of the commercial port, as well as industrial activities such as the saline ones, the factory lead, we are in 1876 for the installation of drying room Cabissol the cod of Lèque, we are in 1894 for the opening of the oil refinery “Phocéenne”. We are finally in 1899, with the door of the 20th century when the Building sites and Workshops of Provence, specialized in naval construction are established in Port-de-Bouc. A few years later, two factories of chemicals, Saint-Gobain and Kuhlman, choose they also Port-de-Bouc. During this period, the population increases and diversifies. It acquired its statute of hospital city there. In 1966, the city records 14 000 inhabitants of thousand horizons. French, Spaniards, Maltese, Italians, Greeks… Wearing of Goat is a country where the voice of the men to the songs of hope, life, freedom reasons.
First fracture, which has occurred in 1966, the shipyards which forged the identity of the city, whose streets today still carry indelible traces, closes their doors. A major economic event which destabilizes all the city. Two thousand employment disappears carrying with them dreams from boats, ships and of ocean. The closing of the building sites remains a wound, whose scar is not closed again.
As of this first undergone shock, with him the fol hope raised by the creation of the industrial park of Fos flies away. In the Seventies all the area lives from the point of view of the gigantic industrial complex of Fos-sur-Mer. One expects the creation of thousands of employment, of the Lorraine steelmakers arrive in the area, decided to contribute to the promised development.
Port-de-Bouc has land reserves, and pushed by the national authorities faces the arrival of 7 500 new inhabitants by building infrastructures of reception… This hope for the city and the whole of the families will have lasted only a few years.
Disillusion occurs in 1975 with the stop of the development of the Z.I of Fos, follow-up of near by the crisis of the iron and steel industry which strikes at once the units of Solmer and Ugine Acier.
An opposed destiny, and as many memories of courage and fights, Port of Goat starts the third millennium with considerable assets. Its geographical location, crossroads maritime and terrestrial is impossible to circumvent.
Single Shouted public of all area PACA for the sale of fish, its two fishing ports accommodate an important fleet of trawlers. The more so as the city knew with coherence to introduce the establishment of companies of transformation of the products of the sea.
Neighbor of the linked activities to fishing, pleasure; the port shelters boats from all Europe. Wearing of Goat plays the chart reception for thousands of visitors attracted by the sea.
