Porsche 911 GT1

The factory Porsche developed a version 911 GT1 of the 911 in the current of the year 1995.

Contrary to its competitors (McLaren F1 and Ferrari F40) it is very far away from the mass-production car of which it takes again only the central cell. In fact Porsche has an opposite step with that of its rivals by building a car of competition with of which it homologous a road version.

The 911 GT1 was committed with the 24 hours of Mans 1996 when it took the second and third places behind Joest Racing. At the end of the season, it crushed competition in Championship WP BPR, largely gaining the three tests where it was aligned, in Brands Hatch (Great Britain), Spa (Belgium), and Zhuhaï (China).

In 1997, Porsche aligned an advanced version of his " GT" who took again the lines (optical before/back) of news 911 of series (996). Completely dominated in championship BPR by Mercedes with its half-compartment CLK-GTR and even by McLaren, the 911 GT1 was competitive only in Mans where, after having carried out most of the race, the two cars gave up the victory once again in Joest Racing.

1998 saw the appearance of the 911 GT1 evolution, pure prototype with frame carbon. Like the previous year, it was eclipsed in championship by Mercedes but took its revenge by gaining the first two places with the 24:00 of Mans before Toyota, Nissan and BMW, Mercedes being abstained to run in a test out-championship.
