Pornic
Pornic ( Pornic in Gallo and Breton Pornizh in ) is a common French, located in the department Loire-Atlantique and in the area Pays of the Loire administratively while it belongs to the historical Brittany.
The common belongs to the historical Brittany, in the traditional country of the Pays of Retz and in the historical country of the Nantes Pays.
Its inhabitants are called Pornicais and the Pornicaises .
The commune also includes those of Holy-Marie-on-Sea and the Clion-on-Sea.
Pornic is located at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The city is known for its castle and its old port. Its main resources are today tourism and the products of the sea.
Pornic is also famous for its Faïencerie, its casino and its center of Thalassothérapie.
Toponymy
The name of Pornic comes from Gallo-Roman the " porniti" (the port), which gave " Pornit" with the Middle Ages, then Pornic. In XIIesiècle, the Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Pornic was entitled " Abbatia Sanctoe Marioe de Pornido " or of " Portu nitido " that one can translate by " vain port and accueillant".

Of azure to the anchor of marine posed in band, responsible for a barrel of gun posed out of bar, crossed in saltire and surmounted by a star, the gold whole, accompanied by four mouchetures of money counterermine each one posed with an angle of the ecu.
The anchor, the gun and the star evoke the lougre " beautiful Etoile" hailed by Commodore Warren in 1800.
The mouchetures of counterermine recall the membership of Pornic to the Brittany.
Currency
The currency of Pornic: “Husbands stella sit nobis propitia” .Mean " literally; That the starfish is to us favorable". However, Maris stella refers to the Ave Husbands Stella, a catholic prayer dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
History
During Antiquity, Pornic belongs to the Armorican confederation which reigns on Armorique, vast territory including current Brittany, Normandy, Maine and Anjou. It made party of small a pagus, Ratiatum, ancestor of the country of Retz. Its inhabitants were Ambiliati or are Anagnutes.
The Ambilatres just like Anagnutes, form integral parts of the people pictons.
In IXesiècle, Pornic will belong to the county of militarily gathering Herbauges, the whole of the parishes and villages of the Low-Poitou in fight against the invasions Vikings. In 851, Erispoé and the king of France, Charles the Bald person, signs the Traité of Angers which makes it possible Brittany to widen its territory by occupying the country of Rennes, the Nantes country and the country of Retz.
At the 10th century the Duc of Brittany Alain Bores-Torte sets up a fortress in the valley of Pornic to protect the city from the Viking S, later it will become the main home of Gilles de Rais also known under the name of Bore-blue .
The history of this city is also related to that of sound Abbaye of Sainte-Marie (which belongs today to a commune with share).
During the revolution, Pornic will become republican but in 1793 will undergo several attacks of the white (royalist troops) and on March 23rd of the same year it will be taken by the marquis of the Rock-Saint-Andre , later it will be taken again by the republicans who will make dreadful massacres there, then again on March 27th the insurrectionists carried out by Cart seize the city again, plunder it and put fire at it.

April 14th, 2000, of light damage are noted at the restaurant McDonald's of Pornic. On Sunday, April 30, in the True Newspaper (on Canal+), Karl Zero affirms being in possession of an official statement of ARB which an attempt at attack against this McDonald' S. Geography
Pornic is on the Côte of Jade, at the edge of the bay of Bourgneuf. Its east coast cut out, rocky and strewn with splits. The town of Pornic developed around the port, close to the castle. The landscape of the commune is scrap-metal and not very undulating in the grounds.In the beginning the commune of Pornic was very small and counted only the current downtown area of Pornic; the commune of Holy-Marie-on-Sea constituted the current western part of Pornic, while that of the Clion-on-Sea represented the main part of the grounds of the woodlands of north in the east, and thus most of the commune current. Moreover the current commune is one of four larger of Loire-Atlantique.
The commune of Pornic is surrounded of the communes of Bernerie-in-Retz, Moutiers-in-Retz, Bourgneuf-in-Retz, Saint-Hilaire-with-Chaléons, Chéméré, Arthon-in-Retz, Chauvé, Saint-Father-in-Retz, Saint-Michel-Chief-Chief, the Plain-on-Sea and Préfailles.

Castle of the Briefs
Strong castle built at the 12th century, initially out of wood, it was used as house of forty for the port Prigny. Rebuilt out of stone the next century, it kept its medieval aspect until the 17th century.At the 17th century under louis XIII, it was shaved, and on the arched cellars a castle of pleasure of style louis XIII was rebuilt.
At the 18th century: the castle is modified and increased. During the wars of the Vendée, the castle is destroyed partly, and with the ruin.
At the 19th century, the castle is repurchased by the noble family De Bocandé, (Mr De Bocandé will be mayor of Pornic in the middle of the 19th century). The castle is restored in 1830 in the Clissonnais style, sails very about it at that time in the area.
At the 20th century, a young lady of Bocandé Marie with Raymond Gallimard, the Parisian editor, and brother of Gaston. The castle will know famous international then, and will come there much writers: let us note (Antoine of Saint Exupéry, Albert Camus,…). Simone Gallimard will continue the literary life in this house, until the tragedy car accident or Albert Camus and her husband Mr. Chevallier, will die.
The castle falls then in abandonments, until being ruined, plundered. In 1989, the castle is saved by an association, is chaired by the storyteller Eric Chartier, with the assistance of the territorial collectivities, and in particular the town of Pornic. The castle became a center of art and culture, or for each year have taken place of the plays, the exposures of art, and the literary evenings.
