Porl Thompson

Porl Thompson is an English guitarist born on November 8th 1957 with Wimbledon in the suburbs from London, known especially for its collaboration with the group The Cure.

Biography

October 1976, Porl Thompson joined Robert Smith, Lol Tolhurst and Michael Dempsey to replace Mark Ceccagno in Mischievousness. It is Lol which makes its knowledge in a store of discs where he was salesman. It will ensure the guitars parts with a certain virtuosity until April 1978, and actively implies it in the writing of new pieces with Robert Smith.Son style very rock'n'roll sticking less and less with the musical orientation of the group, it decides to leave the group and to fit in a school of Article a few months only before the beginning of the recordings of the first album of The Cure.
Porl Thompson never remains very far away from the entourage of The Cure: it will carry out some small pockets of albums and will marry with the sister of Robert Smith.
In 1983, working on the small pocket of the album The Signal, it frequently goes to the studio for the recordings, it records the parts of saxophone and will be requested for the round which will suivera. It is thus quite naturally that it reinstates the group while ensuring on scene of the parts Guitare, Saxophone, keyboards. It makes some tele appearances for promotion of the disc Blue Sunshine of The Glove left in 1983.
Porl Thompson belongs to the group with whole share and takes part in the recording of the albums: The Head one the Door, KIS Me KIS Me KIS Me, Disintegration and Wish. It is also present on the recordings in public Concert, Entreat, Paris and Show like on the vidéos The Cure in Orange, Picture Show.
Porl leaves the group in 1993 and collaborates with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and groups it Babacar founded by Boris Williams after his departure of The cleans. Porl Thompson presents its paintings ( 100% Sky ) on its site officiel.
In 2005, Robert Smith again calls upon his services for the round of the festivals 2005 to replace Roger O'Donnell and Perry Bamonte. He will be present on the next disc of The Cure.
