Popular revolutionary party lao

The popular revolutionary Left lao (lao: Phak Pasason Pativat Lao ) is the Communist party Laos. Since 1975, it is the only political party authorized in the country. The decisional bodies are the Politburo and the Central committee. A Congress, electing the members of Politburo and the central committee is held every five years. The Congress also elected a secretariat but this body was removed in 1991.

History

The party finds its origins in the Indochinese Communist party foundé by Ho Chi Minh in 1930 (see Vietnamese Communist party). The NCV, entirely Vietnamese in the beginning, grows through the totality of French Indo-China and was capable to found a Lao section in 1936. In the years 1940, a campaign is organized to recruit Laotian members, and in 1946 or 1947, Kaysone Phomvihane, studying in right to the University of Hanoi, is recruited, at the same time as Nouhak Phoumsavanh.

In February 1951, the second Congress of the NCV is solved to dissolve the party to form three structures different representing the three countries from French Indo-China. A movement known under the name of Pathet Lao (Fatherland of Laos) was rested by Prince Souphanouvong, like a communist resistance movement fighting at the sides of the Viet Minh against the French colonialists during the first Guerre of Indo-China, but it is necessary to await the March 22nd 1955, date of its first congress, so that the Party of the people lao, or Phak Pasason Lao is officially proclaimed. This first Congress was held by 25 deputy representing between 300 and 400 members of the party. The PPL and its successor the PRPL held his secret existence until 1975, preferring to direct its activities through other structures like Pathet Lao.

In 1956, a legal window of Pathet Lao, the patriotic Face lao (Neo Lao Hak Xat), was founded and took part in several coalitions. In the years 1960, Pathet Lao started a civil war against the government lao supported by the United States and went main several sectors to the north and the east of the country.

In February 1972, at the time of the second Ore baskets of the party, the name of Party of the People lao was replaced by “popular revolutionary Party lao”.
