Like the top of the scale, to characterize the Population S basic Extraction by a term whose meaning does not suggest social inferiority.

It is not inevitably the poverty which characterizes the popular layers , whose diversity induces an employment in the plural more used than the popular class (the word class even inducing an awkward connotation to him). In spite of these terminological decencies, the individuals known as popular have a culture and a cinema which are clean for them, respectively the Popular culture and the Cinéma of district as of manners persistentes which distinguish them from the remainder of the population: cohesion of the social body, Festival S of district, fraternity in the destitution.

The dislike of the rising middle-class for its extraction of origin relegated the popular layers to the peripheries of the cities by a real domination, and the districts of the metropolises were the subject of radical restorations whose range evoked work of Haussmann in another century with Paris to make them disappear.

In certain cities however, the phenomenon of development of the houses in the peripheral zones do not have affected the downtown areas, which preserved their inhabitants while the others settled in the agglomerations bordering; it is the case for example downtown area of Saint-Etienne, the Loire, France.
