The poppy of California ( Eschscholzia californica Cham.) is a herbaceous plant of the family of the Papaveraceae usually cultivated in the gardens of ornament where it is acclimatized, in particular, in France, in the area of Montpellier. It is a plant originating in the California and south-west of the the United States where it covers the vast wide ones near the forests of sequoias.

Composition

The eschscholtzia contains Alcaloïde S, in particular of the californidine. It also contains zinc.

Pharmacopeia

  • Properties: antinevralgic, hypnotic and sedative, slightly antispasmodic
  • Use: enuresis, psiorasis, migraine, neuralgia, insomnia, depress, certain skin diseases.
Its alkaloids are absolutely stripped of toxicity and the use of the plant causes neither habituation nor dependence. Its use however is disadvised in the expectant mother due to the presence of these alkaloids (Eschscholtzine, californidine).
This plant is a hypnotic naturalness: it brings a refreshing sleep and peaceful, removes the difficulties of drowsiness, the nightmares and the alarm clocks night. It is anxiolytic and sedative: it allows anxious and the highly-strung persons of all ages to find a calm life, without stress. The eschscholtzia is very indicated to relieve the physical and psychic disorders of the enfants.
Uses (teenager or adult): 20 G of flowers per liter of infusion ebullient water 15 minimum minute old. 1 cup with sleeping. Nébulisat: 1 G in gélule with sleeping. Powders: idem. Children of less than 12 years: To consult a professional specialized phytothérapeute.
