Poppy Z. Brite

Poppy Z. Brite (born Melissa Year Brite the May 25th 1967) is an American author born with La Nouvelle-Orléans.

Literary career

At the beginning of its career, Brite was initially noticed for its novels and news of horror and Fantastique inspired partly by the Gothic Mouvement. Its trademarks were the use of gay men like main characters, the raw description of sex acts as well as the cold and distant treatment of shocking acts. Some of these most known novels of this period are Lost Âmes (1992), Sang of Ink (1993) and the Exquisite Body (1996); it also published collections of news: Fairy tales green (1993), Coil-Made Man (1998), Wrong Things (with Caitlin R. She also wrote a biography of the singer Courtney Love (1996), who although officially unauthorized, was made with the suggestion of Coils and with her co-operation.

At the end of the years 1990 and with the beginning of the year 2000, it was detached from the fiction of horror while continuing to write on gay characters (but more realistic). Its novels acclaimed by criticism Liquor (2004), Premium (2005) and Soul Kitchen (2006) are comedies of black Humor fascinating places in the medium of the Restaurant S of the Orleans News. In 1999, its news " The Sixth Sentinel" (filmed under the name " The Dream Sentinel") composed part of episode 209 of The Hunger, , a series of horror without a future on the American cabled television channel Showtime . Of all its books, only the Exquisite Body saw its acquired rights, by the producer Simon Rumley.

Personal life

Born in the body from a woman, Brite spoke much about dysphorie of kind, while specifying that it did not have any problem of sexual identity however. She affirms to be identified internally more like one man that like a woman, but does not seek therefore getting dressed like a man or appearing male and does not ask so that it be called " il".
