Poppelsdorf

Poppelsdorf is a district of Bonn.

History

At the 19th century, Bonn absorbs a village named Poppelsdorf which counted a factory of Porcelaine, beautiful country houses and, in 1885, a garrison (regiment of infantry n° 28). It counted 3.930 inhabitants then.

Curiosities

Principal curiosity is the castle built by the prince Clément Auguste of Bavaria (1700-1761) which was bequeathed to the university by Frederic-Guillaume III of Prussia (1770-1840). Today, it accommodates Institutes of biology and mineralogy as well as a natural history museum. A Botanical garden present of many plant varieties and presents the world records of largest flower ever observed, 274 height cm namely a Arum Titan ( Amorphophallus titanum ) (which flowered in 2003).
