Popolari-UDEUR

The Popolari-UDEUR or Union of the democrats for Europe is a Italian Political party , member of the European Popular party, founded in 1999.

Its complete Italian name is association called “ Unione Democratici per Europa (from where the acronym UDEUR , written Udeur according to the Italian typographical rules)”. The party inserted the denomination Popolari to take again the name of old the Italian Christian Democrat. Its parliamentary group took the name of Popolari-UDEUR the September 9th 2004 with the Camera dei deputati, name which seems to be become that of the party ( Popolari-UDEUR ). It has as a symbol a Campanile.

It is defined as a party of Catholique S Démocrate S and of Laïque S Réformiste S. It was founded after the fall of the first government Romano Prodi, with the support of Francesco Cossiga in order to replace communist Refondation in the new government of center-left directed by Massimo D' Alema.

Its principal leader is the senator, elected in 2006 (appointed before), Clemente Mastella.

He obtains his best results in the the Mezzogiorno and in particular in Campanie where he has just gained the Province of Caserte (the April 4th 2005).

He belongs to the electoral alliance of Olivier, baptized Unione since February 2005, but not of the corresponding federation.

He had into 2005 of 11 Député S (Camera dei deputati) and 5 Senator S (Senato della Repubblica) within the Italian Parliament. He obtained the following results the 9 and April 10th 2006:

  • - Camera: 534.553 votes (1,4%), 10 deputies;
  • - Senato: 476.938 votes (1,4%), 3 senators (the party was to exceed 3% to reach the distribution of the seats what it obtained only in Campania and Calabria)

Its only Appointed European, elected in June 2004 (for AP-UDEUR, 420.089 votes and 1,3%), registered with the group of the European Popular party, the former minister Paolo Cirino Pomicino, was excluded from the party the April 14th 2005, not to have supported the candidates of the UDEUR within Olivier with the regional elections in Campanie gained by the center-left, but notwithstanding the instructions, a candidate of the new '' '' Christian Democrat (allied with the center-right), the independent deputy Giovanni Rotondi. He resigned in 2006, being elected appointed for cd. for autonomies, which made it possible Popolari-UDEUR to replace it by a new European deputy in May 2006.

He seems very hostile with the Pacs and refused, by the absence of Clemente Mastella at the Council of Ministers, to sign the bill on the Italian equivalent, baptized dictionary .

Legislative elections of 2006

With the legislative elections of April 2006, the UDEUR obtains 1,4% of the voices to the Room and 10 deputies. With the senatorial elections, it obtains 1,4% of the voices and 3 senators.
