Pool off Radiance
Pool off Radiance , left in 1988, is the first play of a series of video games of role functioning all with same the Moteur of known play under the name of “Gold Box”. The play takes seat in the imaginary universe of the forgotten Royaumes, decoration of countryside of the roleplay Donjons and Dragons. The play was carried in 1992 on Nintendo Entertainment System under the name Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Pool off Radiance .
Gameplay
The play begins with the creation of a goupe of six adventurers exit of the universe of the forgotten Royaumes. As all the plays based on AD&D, the characters are defined by a whole of characteristic (Force, Dextérité, Constitution, Intelligence, Sagesse, Charisme), derived characteristics (points of life, classifies armor, tac0), a class, a race, an alignment and a level. The races available are human, Elfe, dwarf, Gnome, halfing, half-elf, each one having his advantages and disadvantages transcribed in the shape of modifiers to the characteristics and the possible possibility of having several classes. The class is comparable with the trade of the character, the following classes are available: Warrior, Magus, Robber, Priest. The level represents the level of expertise of the character. With each rise in level, the character gains according to his class of the points of life, increases his tac0 (capacity with touching its adversaries) and gains the access to various fates.The major part of the play proceeds in a screen separated in three parts. The part in top on the left is a representation 3D of the direct environment of the characters. The part in top on the right recapitulates the whole of the characters setting up the group with their points of life and their class of armor. The third part in bottom contains textual messages in connection with the environment, the discussions. All in bottom of the screen, there is also a menu making it possible to carry out various actions like resting, launching a fate, to excavate… Displacement is carried out thanks to the numeric keypad. At the time of the engagements, the interface passes in a sight in pseudo isometric 3D where the various speakers are stylized by icons recalling of the figurines of play of plate positioned on a grid.
History
At the beginning of the play, the group arrives at the Phlan news where it is accommodated by a man named Rolf which quickly presents to them the various important buildings of the city such as the town hall, the room of drive and the temple. It finishes the presentation by the entry leading to the slums (slums). After that, the group is free to go to discover the city. The characters start without equipment and must thus go to be equipped in the shops with the city. They can then go to the town hall to discover the missions available. The majority of these missions consists in cleaning a zone of old Phlan by éradiquant a whole of creatures. Each mission is referred by a code which can be found in the newspaper, a paper document where descriptions are found, charts, conversations… Without this document, the play is quite simply unplayable. It is disadvised reading the various entries of the newspaper before to have had the recall because you are likely to reveal parts of the intrigue prematurely. Progressively from the missions, various intrigues will be set up and particularly the reason of the presence of all these monsters.
Adaptation
A novel based on this scenario and called the Fontaine of light was published at black Fleuve in France.
