Pony landais
Morphology
The Poney Landais is harmonious, with a broad head; on the level of the eyes it is fine. Its neck (neck) is well directed, the oblique shoulder and the open breast piece. Its size: of 1,18m with 1,48m. Its back is carrying, the members are dry. The tail and the mane for their part are well provided.
Aptitudes and use
Rustic animal, accustomed to the life of outdoor, it adapts to all the climates. Horse having a good endurance, it is used in equestrian tourism for the excursions and the walks, and makes a good horse of competition for the young people. It is also excellent a harnessed Poney.
History
The ancestor of the pony landais would be Tarpan of the steppes. Its presence in Aquitaine is announced as of the Préhistoire. It then doubtless received infusions of Arab blood due to the abandonment of many horses by the cavalry of Abd' El Rahaman demolished with Poitiers.More recently the pony Landais, small harmonious horse, resulting from the marshy meadows of the Barthe S of the Adour was used for the menus agricultural work and displacements of convenience. It was also exploited with more large scales in the mines of on the other side of the channel towards which whole herds were exported.
The Landais pony owes its success of today with a group of stockbreeders, which in 1967, decides to save the last descendants of the race. A census of the animals corresponding to the original type is carried out, making it possible to retain about fifty ponies. Research also makes it possible to identify Landais ponies apart from the cradle of race, in the Maine-et-Loire and in Paris region.
In 1969, the Race Landais pony is officially recognized by the Institute of the horse. Considering the strong rate of consanguinity and the threat of extinction of the race, it is decided jointly with the director of the National stud farm of Gelos of the time, to infuse blood of Arab horses thorough-bred and ponies welsh B.
Towards 1975, this policy of breeding allows the selection of new standard S. This period coincides with the popularization of the horsemanship and the beginning of the " boom " horsemanship with pony; the Landais pony then becomes the accomplice of the children as well for the competition, where he excels whatever the discipline, as for the leisure or its great stability of character in fact a making safe pony.
