History

Formerly the village was written " Ponvallin ".

The ruins of the castle of Faigne, surrounded by ditches, was a dependence of the chatellery of Castle-of-Dormouse. For this reason, the stronghold of " Ponvallin" (Pontvallain) depended on the duchy of Anjou and its suzerain Henri II Plantagenêt.

On the legal level, Pontvallain had to be able of high, average and low justice. The borough was attached to the seneschalsy of Castle-of-Dormouse.

In XVIIIesiècle, Pontvallain (still written Ponvallin) belonged to the Pays of election of the Arrow.

On the religious level, Pontvallain depended on the deanery of Oizé and on archidiaconé of Castle-of-Dormouse.

the Notre Dame Vault of Faigne close to Pontvallain, is a high place in charge of the French history, known as of XIesiècle and place of pilgrimage.
