Pontrieux
Pontrieux is a common department of the Coast-with Armor, in the area Brittany, in France.
Chief town of canton, Pontrieux owes its name with its bridge on the Trieux ( Pontruus super triticum in Latin).
Geography
Basic city of estuary on the Trieux, located practically halfway between Guingamp and sea.
History
Pontrieux was, of the 15th century at the 19th century, an active commercial city. It exchanged there in particular cereals, fabrics, of flax mainly, and horses. Until the 19th century, the bridge " Saint-Yves" of Pontrieux was only, between Guingamp and the sea, which made it possible to pass from a bank to the other (of the " Trégor" , left bank, with the " Goëlo" , Right Bank). There was a famous cardboard factory with Pontrieux, which printed the first tickets of the Parisian Métro.

On the communal territory the departmental port is located, managed by the Chamber of commerce and of industry of Coast-in Armor. It is located at 800 meters downstream from the borough. At the time of the tides, the sea goes up the " ria" on approximately 18 kilometers and ships of rather important tonnage can engage in the river and pass the lock S.The marketing activity of the port consists only of the reception of Sablier S which discharges each year approximately: 115000 tons of sands and Maërl. The ships belong to the Armorican Compagnie of navigation subsidiary of the Secma specialized in the manufacture of amendments for agriculture.
The activity of the port is especially turned towards the pleasure. Its installations are appraisals of the Anglo-Saxons particularly those of the Channel Islands, Jersey and Guernesey. They represent more half of some 700 boats which accosted with the port in 2005.
Places and monuments
- Walk of the small laundrettes : many a laundrettes (XVIIIe and XIXe) borders the Trieux. These laundrettes, built at the bottom of the gardens of the middle-class houses, were with the abandonment. An association was installation, organized on August 15th an annual festival " the Festival of the lavoirs" , free and which attracts thousands of people, and helped, in dialog with the municipality, the owners of these laundrettes to obtain subsidies to give them in state. To date, not less than 50 laundrettes were given to new. Walks in the boats are organized during all the season which make it possible to discover them. A " course-lumière" splendid allows to admire them at the time of night walks, always starting from the boats
