Pontifical catholic university of Peru

The pontifical catholic University of Peru , or PUCP (in Spanish: Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú ), is a founded Université with Lima, Peru, the March 18th 1917 by the Reverend Père Jorge Dintilhac of the Congrégation of the Crown-Hearts. The principal idea was to create an institution of private higher education.

It is a university managed mainly by its teachers, who elect the leaders directly, partly with the participation of the students. In spite of its name, it does not have a direct link with the Catholic church, even if its Large Chancellor, titrates purely honorary, is the Archevêque of Lima.

History

It received the title of pontifical catholic university in 1942 of the Pape Pie XII.

Its first faculties created are those of Lettres and Droit.

Thereafter, of new faculties were created:

During this period, also, various institutes and schools, like the Institute of Journalism and the School of Pedagogy , were created.

In 1972 the university implemented the programs of General Studies, divided into two large dies:

  • the Science S (for those which were intended for the scientific careers and of Engineering)
  • the Lettres (for the Social sciences, social sciences, management, accountancy and right).
In same optics, in 1977, the academic programme of Social work at summer created, today in sleep.
  • Years 1980, faculty of the Art schools, dedicated to the visual arts and the drawing.

  • February 3rd 1986, INIPUC, institute for the teaching of the English and the Spanish .
  • 1998, faculty of Sciences and Arts of the Communication
  • 2002, faculty of Architecture
  • 2005, speciality of Political science and Government.

The University Currently

Today, the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru has more than 17000 students in 43 different specialities and 10 faculties. She also proposes remote courses and short formations.

It one of the most important education institutions of Peru, is regarded as the best private university by the Peruvians. The former students are proud to raise the sticker PUCP on their personal vehicle.

The Campus is located in the Arrondissement of San Miguel and has a surface of 413902m ².

The campus is equipped of more than 4000 Ordinateurs connected to Internet. The PUCP was the first Peruvian academic institution to propose a service of Email in 1992. It is also the first Peruvian campus connected to the Internet in February 1994, since the arrival of the Internet in Peru. Also, it was the first Peruvian campus equipped with an internal network High banc which supports the comparison in terms of reliability and speed with much of universities of the most advanced countries. The campus also has a Wireless networking with high banc called wifipucp accessible to all.

Outside the campus, training colleges of the languages were developed. One finds an arts center (CCPUCP) with the Arrondissement of San Isidro and the CENTRUM proposing of the programs MBA located in the Arrondissement of Santiago de Surco.
