A overhead travelling crane is an apparatus of Manutention allowing the lifting and the doors transfer of charge. An overhead travelling crane consists of a horizontal section of Acier (the bridge ), mobile on a fixed bearing structure; Winch S or Palan S are suspended under the bridge, and are themselves mobile. Each axis of motion can be motorized.

Structure

It differs from the crane, the gantry, the semi-portal bridge crane, the bracket and the monorail mainly by its design.

It consists of one or two steel beams, motorized by 1,2 or 4 engine (S) or not motorized, on which a hoist or a winch power or not is placed. It can be suspended or posed on 2 rails.

The overhead travelling cranes are generally installed in industrial halls or their prolongation with the free air. They allow the handling of the load in all the space of these halls. They are installed in height on guide rails posed on beams in Acier or Béton resting themselves on posts. There can be several bridges in the same span, each one of them is then protected by an anti-collision system.

The overhead travelling crane consists of one or two stringer beams resting at each end on a carriage called diagrid equipped with wheels moving on a rail. The width of the bridge corresponds to that of the industrial hall in which it is installed. The bridges for weak loads are single-beam, the others with double beam. On the stringer beams rests a carriage equipped with one or two Treuil S making it possible to roll up the hoisting cable. At the end of the cable, is assembled either directly or on a Poulie, the hook of lifting.

On a small overhead travelling crane, the control of the machine is done by remote control or radio control, the large bridges often have a driving cabin, but they can also be controlled since the ground by a remote control. They are used for handling in the parks with raw materials, with end products (parks with irons) in the large halls of storage (unloadings of barges or coaches, rechargings of trucks). They can be equipped for particular handling, of grips, cups, hooks, electromagnets. They function with the electrical energy .

There exists for the Industrie S doors of very large models able to raise loads of several hundreds of ton S such as the molten steel or cast iron pockets in the steel-works.
