Pont de la Confédération
The bridge of the Confederation is installed on the Détroit of Northumberland between the island of the Prince-Edouard with the continent, the province of the New Brunswick, with the Canada, since May 1997. Making 12,9 km, it is the longest bridge above a maritime extent taken by the ices in the world.
The two-track road (11 m broad) belonged to the Road transcanadienne between Borden-Carleton, Island-of-Prince-Edouard and Cape Jourimain, New Brunswick. It is a structure with multiple spans (62) separated from 250 m out of post-tensionné concrete with trunk beam. Most of the curved bridge is with 40 meters above water, but it contains a part with 60 meters to allow the traffic of boats.
Toll is due only when the island is left; the current tariff is, for example, of 40,50 dollars for a car. A shuttle is available for the pedestrians and the cyclists. The tariff is of 4,00 dollars for the pedestrians and 8,00 dollars for the cyclists.
The legislation of the island applies, although it is that of New Brunswick which regulates the Traversier S and other ships.
