Pont de Saint-Georges

The bridge of Saint-Georges is a Pont road and pedestrian on the Arve, located in the Canton of Geneva, in Suisse.

Localization

The bridge of Saint-Georges is the eighth bridge upstream of Arve after its entry in the canton of Geneva. It is also the last road bridge before the junction of Arve with the the Rhone. It connects the districts of Praille on left bank and of the Junction on Right Bank, its Culée on left bank is located at the Embouchure Aire.

History

The construction of the bridge of Saint-Georges in 1882 is one of the key components of the urban development on left bank of Arve, in the district of the Acacias. Following its construction, several companies indeed come to be established in the area, of which the Brasserie Tivoli as well as the chemical company Firmenich.

This bridge then forms part of the general plan of circulation which aims at continuing the semi-highway Young people through the Junction and the Rue of the Double-deckers until the Gare Cornavin via the Pont Under-Ground. It holds its name of the plate of the same name which overhangs the bridge as well as the Bois of Built the. In 2007, the project of extension of the Tram between the station and Bernex envisages its passage on the bridge.
